Q.
What does it take to get my band student ready?
A. The main uniforms for marching season and concert season are supplied by
the school. There are a few items that you will need to purchase through
specific suppliers that the band will arrange to have available.
(approximately $15) - 2 required, will order in the summer
or at summer band so we have them by the first game.
Black gloves (approximately
$3 a pair) - All wind instruments should
purchase two or more pairs. Percussionists do not need gloves.
Black Marching Shoes (approximately
$37).
Garment bag (approximately
$30). Band student’s initials are applied.
Tote bag (approximately
$34-$40) - optional but recommended.
Orders for shoes, gloves and bags will be taken on a specified day by the
band director. Please bring separate checks to pay for each of these items.
T-shirts will be sold separately through the Booster Organization.
Q. Are there any other needed items that can be purchased locally:
A. Certain items do not need to be special ordered, but are important to
have. These are:
-
Water jug– 1/2 to 1 gallon container
-
Boxer shorts, exercise shorts, or bike shorts, etc., that can be worn under
uniform pants. (These are recommended since the kids typically want to get out
of the hot uniforms after an event and the only place to do it is on the buses
with their fellow students. We strive to maintain a PG environment for
our kids.)
-
Black socks (2 -10 pairs) depending on how often your child will misplace
them.
-
Heavy clear plastic poncho (Dollar Store, Walmart, Target-$.99 to $4.99))
-
Black towels (Target-$1.99, Walmart-$3.99).
Be sure that your child brings home his or her towel, socks and T-shirts
after an event to be washed. Sweaty socks and T-shirts can be a little smelly
after being closed up in a garment bag for a week!!!
Q. What about the band uniform and formal attire for the spring?
A. Marching uniforms are supplied by CISD for all band students. They will be
fitted at the beginning of the season by experienced moms. You may need to hem
the pants. Don’t worry, your student will be shown how they need to fit. If your
student’s pants look too short, you can be assured that they are then a perfect
fit.
Under no circumstances are uniforms to be cut.
Talk to Sherri Gates if you do not know what to do. Uniforms should not come home after
initial sizing. They should be hung up in the uniform room which is located down
the hall from the Band Hall.
During the spring semester, boys are fitted with tuxedos and the girls can
either use one of the school black dresses or they may supply their own.
Guidelines for dress cut and length will discussed later
Q. Do the students wear their uniform to everything?
A. For pep rallies, some parades, and other less formal events, they wear
jeans and their band shirts. The orders for the band shirts are taken during
summer band. Band shirts are also available for the parents to wear to band
events to show support for their student. Parents may purchase a T-shirt type
with a rounded collar or one with a regular polo shirt-type collar.
