Some Guidance on Creating Forms or Flyers for TWHS Band Events or Merchandise

  1. Make the flyer or form in a format readable by others - Word, WordPerfect, Adobe Acrobat, etc.  (Usually, the Web Master will convert it to Adobe Acrobat (.pdf) format so that everyone can read and print it.)

  2. Avoid using Apple (Mac) fonts.  They may look great, but 99% of the readers are on PCs and Apple keeps most of their fonts proprietary.

  3. Keep it REALLY simple.  You already have a captive audience; no need to 'wow' them with your ability to copy and paste graphics.

  4. Make sure you have a contact, tel. number, email, prices, quantity, instructions for mailing or dropping off the flyer, and who to make the check to (Generally, "TWHS Band Boosters") - all on the flyer!

  5. If it's for an event, also include location, directions, and time.

  6. If you want to include pictures (which may not copy well on the flyer), send those to the Web Master and - if you ask nicely -
he will post them on a web page just for your event/sale.

  7. The Web Master owns a scanner and can scan your item or picture into a usable format.  (See Lesson #5)

  8. ALWAYS double check ANYTHING of yours posted on the web site.  The Web Master is old, feeble, dyslexic, and often irrational.  Chances of one or more mistakes are very high indeed.  If a parent asks him about some misspelling or strange, disconnected number, he will plead ignorance.  And the parents will quickly believe that to be the case.

  9. On any flyer that will be used for ordering merchandise or tickets, make sure there is a blank for the student's name,
and one for a telephone number.  For a long dissertation on this subject, ask Darlene what happens when you don't.

  10. You can assume that about 5% to 10% of the girls in band will lose any flyer handed out before they get home.  For boys, the
ratio is about 90%.  Theories abound, but the ratios are what they are.  That's why we need a copy on the web site!

  11. Get a copy of your stuff to the Web Master ASAP!  There is no problem setting up a web page just for your event, or posting your flyer or order form.  It does, however, take some time to do so.  Email - to communications @twhsband.com - is the best means.

  12. If you have any questions, contact the Web Master.
